MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) - Dow Corning Corp. has offered about $2.4 billion to settle breast implant claims as part of a plan to bring the company out of bankruptcy. The settlement that would be offered to the about 200,000 women world wide who say that breast implants caused disease or injury to them, pending a vote by the women. The amount of the settlement increases depending on the percentage of women who approve the plan.

The amounts offered to the women range from $1,000 for an expedited claim, up to $200,000 to cover medical conditions the women say they have suffered because of the silicone implants. In offering the settlement, Dow maintained that the company does not acknowledge that the implants cause disease. The company said they ``know thgat breast implants can cause local complications and in some cases, rupture can occur.''
