The European Parliament today rejected the findings of the panel of Doctors from Spain who headed the investigation into the safety of silicone implants. Dr. Moreno presented his findings to the M.Ps and reccommended that implants remain on the European Market but more studies must be forthcoming.

Christine Williamson of Silicone Support OK then delivered a powefful speach to the parliament giving reasons why they must reject Dr. Morenos findings, and introduc ed the evidence on the new FDA rupture study.

The M.Ps then announced that although they would like to ban implants today and YES they believe women are becoming ill due to silicone implants they will however give the commision 6 months to come up with new proposals.

They did not consider Dr. Moreno's reccomendations and did not discuss his recommendations and refused to consider his options........ They repoted that any woman receiving implants in the next 6 months will be told that they could become ill due to silicone.....they also said that Plastic Surgeons will not be giving preoperative advise to women ...special groups will be set up to do this.

The petition has taken around 7 years to get this far and was started in Glasgow by Margo Cameron of Silicone support UK and later carried on by Christine Williamson.

Bill Miller the MEP for Glasgow who took the petition to Brussels on behalf of European support groups was present today in Brussels to hear the verdict.

Please give him big thank you.
