BREAST IMPLANT LINE OF CANADA........the beginnings

In January of 1992, four women decided to make a reality of their dream. This dream was to utilize the information and resources they had to educate themselves and others about silicone gel breast implants. These women, whose health had been adversely affected by these implants, envisioned developing a new organization. This organization would have a mandate to educate people who have, have had or plan to have silicone gel breast implants and all others concerned with breast implants. They decided to work with physicians, researchers, scientists and anyone else concerned with the issue.

DARLENE, JEAN, ANNEMARIE and JOYCE began to investigate the process involved in developing a non-profit Organization. DARLENE and ANNEMARIE were unable to continue with the group because of family commitments. JEAN and JOYCE were very pleased to welcome ALEXANDRA on Board. The latter three looked forward to the learning process that they would encounter in attempting to help others run through the maze of the silicone disaster. All three understood the necessity of reaching the people adversely affected, because they knew how many questions they had and no one seemed to be able to give sound and good advice.

BREAST IMPLANT LINE OF CANADA was chosen as the official name. By August 1992 it was incorporated in the Province of Ontario with a Federal Charitable Tax Registration Number. ( 0929091-09). This is a totally volunteer based organization.

A $30.00 Annual Membership provides the opportunity to attend bi-monthly meetings, telephone network and receive quarterly Newsletters.

It is encouraging to note that more than 10,000 calls have been received since inception. We held our First National Breast Implant Conference at The Sutton Place Hotel in November 1995 where International experts, in the field, attempted to help us understand what health consequences we endure because of these faulty medical devices.

Joyce was appointed to the External Advisory Committee of the Breast Implant Cohort Study being implemented by Health Canada in Ontario and Quebec.

As the Spokesperson for Breast Implant Line, Joyce speaks through the various media (radio, television and newspapers) about our adverse health reactions due to breast implants.
