I.A.S. IMPLANT AWARENESS SOCIETY 102 - 6086 Boundary Drive West Surrey, B.C. V3X 2B3 Telephone: (604) 572-8486 e-mail: adellaem@shaw.ca We are a society of women and men in British Columbia, registered December 14, 1994 (number S-32925), that provides help to people who have or had implants. On February 6, 1996, we met all the criteria for tax-exempt status with Revenue Canada and were assigned tax number 1061415-09. The purposes of the society are: 1 .To disseminate information on the effects of silicone and saline implants, as well as other related implants.2.To provide a support group for those suffering from the ill effects of implants and for their families. 3.To help members and the public with regards to information that is provided to doctors, lawyers, and other pertinent offices. The majority of members to date are breast implant victims who have had implants for 5 to 26 years before having them removed. We found that most of us began to feel our health slip in the fifth year and gain momentum in the seventh year and onward (one man with a silicone implanted back disk is also suffering the same symptoms). We have found through this illness, primarily silicone to date, that we have identical symptoms that most of the medical community dismisses. However, when you get so weak that you cannot work anymore, have severe pain daily, and then get lost in your own neighborhood going for groceries or a doctor's appointment, you soon become dependent on others who simply cannot understand why you are not getting better. Saline implants are just as dangerous as silicone, and now the soy oil is being introduced. One reason is the semi-permeable elastomer (silicone) envelope. This envelope does not provide protection from the contents that contain many crippling chemicals. Some doctors add to the saline (that has an expiry date) steroids and iodine and the oil has chemicals to prevent rancidity. These chemicals leak out and are damaging to the immune system, gradually breaking it down. It is just a question of how long for each person. Every implant contains micro-organisms that grow and multiply at a rapid rate inside the warm medium of the body. There is no known cure for these, they are compared to what is found on a battlefield in wartime. Our society has a great deal of validated information. We will try to answer your questions. We hold support group informational meetings in a local hospital in Vancouver British Columbia, NOT to be confused with the Breast Centre. Sincerely, Adella Matthew President |
